As a company that believes firmly in the correction of the imbalances of the past, drastic action has been taken, and today 94% of the total staff complement is from the previously disadvantaged communities (PDIs). We understand that it is essential for training to take place on all levels in the company to ensure a competent workforce. To reach our training and skills development goals we have a comprehensive training and development plan in place, and have a participative Training & Development Committee that manages the training and skills development process. Development has a long reaching effect and is used to advance competent staff for possible promotions. The company is spending approximately 3% of its total turnover on the training of employees. Some employees are busy with their apprenticeships of which some are PDIs. Driver training is also a major priority and each and every driver participates in driver training courses every two years. These courses are in line with the national standards. Many other courses like health and safety, supervisory and management, computer training, literacy etc. As a company we understand that it is in everybody’s best interest to address the imbalances of the past. As with other projects the management is wholeheartedly committed to the success of this project. On the whole our employment equity targets have already been reached and our workforce accurately reflect the population in the area in which we operate. This includes organised and private parties, such as sports events, educational activities, recreational and social events, and funerals. The well-designed and neat depot is more than adequate for the current number of buses.
